DevLog: Ship Roles and Designs

Re: Update?

Currently I am busy working on the ship designs/production, and tying that into the new refitting and replacement system. The idea is that ships will be built continuously and can be stockpiled until they are assigned to a squadron/wing/fleet or wherever. Once the player has setup their fleet compos...

Re: Video: Galaxy Generator and Some Gameplay

Epic stuff, could you also update your blog with this video and post? So people know about it. :) Nice to see shields on ships. :D I would like to keep the development log posts centralized just on the forum now. I also copy everything across to http://www.indiedb.com/games/galaxial So having three...

Video: Galaxy Generator and Some Gameplay

Hi, sorry for the silence. The workload has been tough... but I have been quietly working hard on Galaxial over the past year. The project is still very much alive, and I have never come close to giving up on it! ...it is just ambitious for one developer, and is taking much longer than I thought it ...

Re: Research

So when you say the lower grades will still be useful, does that mean we can choose between the grades at will depending on the situation? Yes. As you research new ship modules, the older ones can still be used in ship designs and be useful in some way. For example they might be quick and cheap to ...

Re: We are in 2016 and there are no updated..

Hey.
No the project is definitely not dead. I am still working on Galaxial and there has been lots of significant development.
It is still a while off from being finished, so I have preferred not to post any updates for the time being.

Re: Backgrounds and engine features

Hi, the sector background colors are gradients rendered procedurally by the game engine and can be changed or new presets added. This is an example of one of the xml files for a sector color: <ColourSector> <Name>Blue</Name> <Weight>1.0</Weight> <Colours> <Sector Background="52,72,88" Glow...

Re: DevLog: The making of Giru!

Very cool. I'm guessing there will be some kind of power/hardpoint restrictions for balance.

Yes. The ship hulls each have a number of passive, active and targeted module hardpoints. There will maybe be a power limit restriction as well depending on if its needed for balancing the modules.

Yes, I think so. It's also very similar to EVE Online where you pick a ship hull and then choose which modules to fit on it.

Re: DevLog: The making of Giru!

So these ships will not be comprised of multiple components, but rather will each be a unique base? You can choose which modules go inside the ship which affects its capabilities, things like weapons, shields, etc. But you could make multiple ship designs using the same ship hull, in which case the...

Re: is galaxial realeased?

No, Galaxial is not released yet.

I am still quietly working on the game but have had a few distractions in life recently.
Sorry for the lack of news and development updates, rest assured I am not going to give up on Galaxial.

Re: Frequently Asked Questions

Hi Stuart, wanted to ask, you mentioned somewhere that your GUI (Buttons, widgets) are procedurally rendered. How did you mean that? Does that mean you didn`t created the UI components in graphics program? Very interested in this process. Thanks! Not sure where I said that... the GUI components are...

Re: Switching from XML to LUA?

At this point, I don't feel it would be practical switching to LUA for scripting. I think it would cause more delays seeing as a lot of it is already done and I would have to rewrite large portions of the game. Much of the ship combat, AI decisions and behavior in the game are hard-coded, so I don't...
